Shop Equal Rights.jpg

Hi, my name is Adam and I created ShopEqualRights.com in response to all the anti-gay, anti-equality ballot measures that passed during the 2008 election.  Like lots of others, I couldn’t donate large sums of money but wanted to help in any way I could.  When I found out that large donations which helped pass Prop 8 and other discriminatory measures were made directly from businesses where I’ve shopped, I knew where to focus my energy.

If you believe that all of us should have equal rights, you can help promote equality through consumer activism.  Sign up for our free email newsletter to receive weekly discounts and special offers from top brands that support equality.  If you’d like to become more involved, become a Premium Member.  You’ll help us grow and urge more companies to adopt policies that promote equality.  You’ll also save money with unlimited access to our members-only discount section and receive a free one year magazine subscription to The Advocate.

Why you should shop at equality minded businesses:

It provides a safe work environment where employees can talk about their family without fear of discrimination.

There is no federal law prohibiting workplace discrimination of LGBT Americans.  Anyone who lives in a state without anti-discrimination protection can still legally be fired because of their sexual orientation (real or perceived).

Even in states with protection measures, companies that don’t incorporate equality into their mission can be unwelcoming to LGBT employees and customers.

Shopping with businesses that do not support equality can indirectly fund discriminatory policies that prohibits or removes individual rights to marry, adopt, or even remain employed.
